Bureau of Fire Safety Bills (HB 5860-5871 & SB 1133-1145)

A large unicameral package of bills aimed at creating a new Bureau of Fire Services under the Department of Labor and Economic Growth moved closer to the governor's desk Wednesday as the House approved all the Senate bills.

The legislation calls for the state's fire marshal to be moved from the Department of State Police to the new bureau, as well as moving the Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council and the State Fire Safety Board under the new bureau and creating a new Arson Strike Force Unit.

The bills would also provide for a centralized location in the bureau for local governments to apply for permits concerning fireworks shows.
